Essay: SENAME children

In this essay, I will talk about the children that are inmates in SENAME. In these days, a lot of kids and girls are trapped in the reformatory centers of SENAME, suffering a lot of violence.

A lot of these children are just coming of a poor family, in which their parents couldn’t pay a babysitter, and neither they can take care of them because they need to work. In most of the cases, is the mother who is blamed to be irresponsible, but that is very unfair because nobody blames the father, who in a lot of cases is not even present to the child. So, the children in the centers of SENAME are been punished for being poor.

The children that had made crimes, doesn’t deserve either to be punished for that as an adult, because if a child do bad things, probably the reason for that is that they didn’t have good life conditions to do something else, like studying.

In the centers of SENAME, the children are exposed to be tortured, beaten, raped, even murdered. Nobody are defending them and the caregivers are using that to mistreat the people that they should be helping. That could be solved by stopping with all the SENAME system, and by creating a totally new penitentiary in which the people could be reintegrated to society and not being even more excluded that before.

In conclusion, is a obligation to a society which want to be developed to take care of the children in reformatory centers, giving them all the tools to help them to be reintegrated to society.

Report: my work experience

 Introduction

The goal of this report is to describe and evaluate my six weeks’ experience at the Ministry of Education and to make recommendations for the future.

About the Ministry

The Ministry of Education is one of the most important department of the government. Its leader is the Minister Raúl Figueroa, who has that position since February of this year. The mission of this Ministry is to create policies to assure that the Chilean society could have a good education level.

My work experience

In my first week the people over there only ask me to do things as make coffee, do copies and run errands. I didn’t feel respected at first.

Then I started to participate in work groups, giving my analysis and researching about the issues that concerns to the Ministry. I enjoyed that labor more than the first things that they make me do, so I put all my effort to do a good job. I was so motivated that I didn’t mind being very tired at the end of the day, because I worked 45 hours a week.

At the fourth week, they ask me to do an evaluation to an improving program for rural schools. I did a very complete research and then I make a very good presentation, but nobody of my colleagues was interested. In the fifth week the same thing happened to me.

Finally, in my last week there, I participated in a commission to help the Minister to create a policy to help the teachers with COVID, but I also consider my help useless, because the Minister only heard the President and a group of businessmen.

General comments

I wanted to work in the Ministry because I believe that education is an important matter to society. Unfortunately, my work partners didn’t think like me. They didn’t care about the students or education at all, they were only preoccupied to make money and be seen for the Minister.

Conclusion

I don’t recommend at all to work in the Ministry of Education as the actual government is still in La Moneda, because they don’t care about helping people, but they only want to help themselves and the millionaires.

The boundaries of technology

 All of us know that in the last years the technology has became an important tool to do a lot of things in our daily life. But we must put boundaries to that, because if people let machines do too much for them, eventually people will no longer be able to do things for themselves.

So, we must understand that technology is only a tool to us, it mustn’t replace the human beings. Is not only dangerous because it will incapacitate the people, but it will destroy a lot of works. If employers begin to use machines instead of human beings, the life of that people would be more deteriorated. But, if we use the technology to help us, the labor of that people could be better, making them better workers.

As can be seen, is very important to put boundaries to the use of technology, using it to help people, but not to replace them.

What type of music do you prefer to dance/listen at parties?

The pie chart is about the type of music that people prefer to dance or listen at parties and twentyfive people participated (n = 25).

The results shows that the majority of the response said that reggaeton is the favourite type of music to dance at parties (68%).

Then the 24% of the respondents said that cumbia is their favourite type of music for parties, and only two people select techno as their favourite type of music to dance at parties.

What to do with the people in preason?

In conclusion, if a society wants to be a better one, it way to reduce crime mustn’t be by destroying the life conditions to the people who committed crime. On the contrary, the society must bring reinsertion opportunities to the criminals, so they can feel that they are part of the community. If they feel that they are excluded of the rest of the people, they will do crime over and over, and society will punish them over and over, and nothing will be solved. For defeat crime, we need education, not revenge.

About obesity

The growing trend of obesity would mean that that condition should be a public health issue, because it cause a lot of health problems to the population. The WHO had said that obesity causes hearth illnesses, being a high percentage of the annual death ratio in the world. So, the State must put all the effort in create health programs with the purpose of decrease this trend. Also, these programs must be focused in the people with least resources. 

But the obesity is just a symptom of the real problem: the sedentary lifestyle. The science community are saying that the sedentary lifestyle is the principal reason of deaths in the planet, higher that HIV or cancer. To attack this problem, the labor law must ensure to the work mass time for resting and do exercises, because the major issue to the workers are the high mental and physical fatigue, which keep them from having an active lifestyle. Also, the importance to attack the sedentary lifestyle before attack the obesity would help to stop the fat phobia, understanding that the problem is not being fat but the unhealthy lifestyle.

Immigration in Chile

The growing immigration in Chile is a big opportunity for the country, but it must be taken seriously. In the last few years a great number of foreign people has arrived in Chile, especially from other countries of Latin America. This situation is a great opportunity to learn and integrate a lot of things about the culture of these people and also to develop strong bonds between Latin-American countries. But it must be taken seriously on the part of the State, so the question here is how to assure minimum life condition for the immigrants.

Chilean education

One of the biggest issues in Chile is its education, but it can be solved. Since the time of dictatorship, the education of Chile has suffered a lot of reforms, privatizing a part of the educational system and giving the responsibility of the remain part to the municipalities. That was a really bad idea, because that neoliberal system doesn’t recognize the inequality in Chilean society, segregating rich and poor students. That can be solved, giving to the State the responsibility and the administration of all the educational system, but how to improve the functioning of the State to accomplish that? 

Biodata Fernando Donoso

Fernando Donoso is a sociology student. He is studying in FACSO since 2017, but before that he studied business engineering for four years. He left that career because he wasn’t happy studying there and he had irreconcilable political differences with his partners and his teachers. He wanted to help people with his career, and he believed that economics could help him to do that, but then he realized that sociology was better to accomplish that goal.

His favorite subject of study are the topics that are related to the natural enviroment. He had developed deep reflections on that subject thanks to his experience in various organizations related to the defense of nature. He believes that the practice of sociology must have empiric experience behind. He doesn’t want to be a sociologist of desk, he wants to be in the field working with people, not only as a sociologist, but also as a natural person. 

Besides sociology, Fernando likes arts a lot. He specially likes cinema, music and literature. He plays guitar, piano, bass guitar and he sings too. At present he doesn’t play in a band, but he wants to join one in the future. He also wants to study something related to acting, but he doesn’t want to study that in university.
